Just wanted to make sure word got out about the church's recent statement about immigration. The link is here.
From the language of the Utah Compact, which the church supports:
"Immigration is a federal policy issue between the U.S. government and other countries — not Utah and other countries."
Too many members of the church favor Arizona-type immigration laws (including the man behind the Arizona laws). They should know their church doesn't agree with them.

By the way, lots of juicy stuff here. I'm a bit surprised about how forthcoming the church is about its stance. Interested to see if the anti-immigrant crowd will come up with a reply, and if people will leave the church over it.
I was pleased when I heard the Church's stance on the news, too. And I feel validated after reading the Compact that my own, personal stance is in line with the Church's view that we must be Christian and humane not focus on "civil violations of federal code", that immigrants DO play an important role in our economy. When we consider what Jesus would do, it really is no surprise that the Church's stance would be thus.
Listened to KSL the other day, and they were talking about the leader of the Utah Minutemen and his ridiculous response to the Utah Compact. He called those that signed it "amnesty-mongers" whatever the heck that means.
Yeah, the Minutemen organization is a joke.
It's clear the church is going a different direction here than many Utah politicians. I hope church members listen to their church leaders rather than their political affiliation for this one.
And count me in as an amnesty-monger. Better that than a Minuteman.
