Suspect blog readability test

Two cousins have posted this on their blogs. I figured I'd try it out too...

blog readability test

TV Reviews

Postgrad. So that's cool, I guess. But then I decided to try out www.seriouslysoblessed.blogspot.com, and it gave it a genius level. Admittedly, it is genius, but it parodies dumbness, so any ranking site like this should give it a low rating. That, and I'm sure the fictional TAMN would be horrified that her site warrants a genius ranking. Orson Scott Card's website warranted an "elementary school" reading level. Ouch.
My final analysis: I think this website hands out rankings on a random basis. It remembers what it handed out, so if you type in the same website twice, it will give you the same answer both times, but it's still random. I tried it out on some friends blogs too...and friends that write on a higher level than I do got lower rankings.
Also notice (but don't click on) the tiny writing on the bottom of the rating (where it says "TV Reviews"). This, no doubt, is why the blog readability test exists. It's basically an advertisement.
Feel free to try it out. Just remember, though...it may be fun, but it's most definitely BS.

Apparently, the ranking site didn't like my post, because they just lowered my ranking.
(Just kidding. My ranking did move down, but I stand by my assertion that it's random).

I don't think it's entirely random...a couple of my other readers started plugging in various sites as well, and reported their findings in the comments on my post... One speculated (and I think the theory holds water) that it looks for the length of words, and also how many words it does not recognize. If you have a massive vocabulary, that brings a higher rating...ironically, if you are a bad speller, that also earns a high rating.
I tried plugging my site in several times, and it always came back with the same response...so I don't think it's truly random. On the other hand, I agree that it's not terribly accurate either.
Purely for fun. :)

Hmmmm....maybe I'll test it out...

I tried a test entirely in German. I'm sure I misspelled a lot of the words in German, and many of them were huge (selbstverstandlich, for example).
My rating was lower (just barely) than it was the first time I tested it on my normal blog.
Sorry, but that hypothesis has apparently failed. Words it doesn't recognize does not make it rank you higher. Maybe I'll try it again using long sentences.

Long sentences don't seem to work either. I don't think there's a method to it, or if there is, it's something silly, like the last letter of the most recent post is a "t", so the post gets Genius level, or something like that. Seriously. Play around with it on your own post. But if a post with big words entirely in German gets me a lower rating...

Wow. I got Junior High School level. Man, I'm such a loser.
