Baby boy

April went into labor sometime around 1:00 a.m. Monday morning and gave birth around 6:00 p.m. She took an epidural around 3:00 p.m. The long labor might have been due to the baby's position--he was turned the wrong direction until about 20 minutes before delivery, when the doctor turned him around and told April to start pushing.
Peter is 8 lbs. 5 oz., and just over 22 inches. He's good-natured, often awake, constantly hungry, and healthy. He nursed for a full 90 minutes just minutes after birth, and he would've nursed more if he could have.
He made my parents grandparents for the first time, and he made my four siblings uncles and aunts.

Oh yay! I was thinking about April yesterday, wondering how her doctor's appointment went, but I guess she didn't have it as scheduled. Much better to go into labor on her own. I can't wait to meet the little guy! I'm glad he's healthy and that all three of you are doing well. Please let me know when I can bring over a meal!

Welcome to little Peter!!
And good job April!! (sometimes people spend too much time focused on the babies and forget how awesome the mamas are!) When babies are posterior it tends to cause back labor which is MUCH harder to handle because their skull is smashing right against mom's spine and tailbone. I had just a little bit of back labor and would not have made it without my heat backs on my back--I about died every time they had to be taken off to be replaced.
I read this week that the average first time white mother delivers are 41 weeks 3 days, so April was pretty normal. Statistically though subsequent babies usually come a couple of days sooner than the last one. :)

Congratulations Tim and April! We are so happy for you. I, like other commenters, am glad that April was able to go into labor on her own, and that despite the little guy being posterior, was able to push him out. Welcome to the world, Peter!

That is fantastic! Congratulations to both of you and great job April! That is a long time to be in labor - it sounds like you did wonderfully. I'm glad he's alert and eating. Happy day!

His middle name isn't Gabriel by chance is it? Congratulations Tim and April!

Cougarg,
We thought about it.
But no, it's not.
His middle name is Veldon, after his great-grandfather.
